Memorial: Wizzard.....
Posted by: maarten on Friday, May 02, 2003 - 12:46 AM
Articles For anyone who knew or heard of Wizzard, the inventer of "community events" for the fun of it. Here is the letter Mary send to the Palace Pioneer list:

Tonight (Tuesday morning) at about 1:30 AM, my best friend and companion for the last five years or so, Kent Starr, also known to this community as Wizzard, was lifted up by heavenly angels and taken to a better place. He will struggle with sickness no more. He is at rest. Preparations will be underway tomorrow for cremation and a burial at sea so he can continue to sail on. There are so many oceans to sail. He was a fighter and a very strong man to the end. He was loved and will be remembered by so many all over the world. With love, Dr. Crusher

Tybalt had written a tribute to Wizzard here:

Memorial: Last Resort Mourns the Loss of WizofOz
Posted by: wary on Sunday, November 10, 2002 - 06:05 PM
Articles Last Resort has lost a family member and resident in WizofOz, a Palace pioneer and original known to many in the Palace community.

WizofOz, who in the offline world was Will Holroyd,58 of South Carolina, died Friday after being ill for months with a brain tumor. He so enjoyed Palace that he chatted at Last Resort with the assistance of his daughter and son-in-law until the day before his death.

He was a retired bank systems analyst and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era.

Last Resort will miss WizofOz, his sense of humor and wit, participation in our events and early morning coffee, his avatar at the gate. We do find comfort in his words that he knew we cared about him at Last Resort and it meant a great deal to him.

WizofOz is well-known to other Palaces he visited, including the Gardens Proppe Shop.

In honor of WizofOz, Last Resort has a gate link to his private island and memorial rooms for Palace friends to pay their respects. Wizard's Falls was his favorite spot and he often spent the night beside the falls with his avatar sleeping in a hammock. Also included are his Wiz of Oz room and a room of memories with images of WizofOz at various events.

Memorial: God Bless You, Daniel Pearl

The Planet Man is only a reed, the weakest in nature; but he is a thinking reed. There is no need for the whole universe to take up arms to crush him: a vapor, a drop of water is enough to kill him. But even if the universe were to crush him, man would still be nobler than his slayer, because he knows that he is dying and the advantage the universe has over him. The universe knows nothing of this.
--Blaise Pascal, 1623-1662

Memorial: The Pentagon

Opinions My work partner and I decided to stop by the Pentagon Row Shopping Center to support our users there, we didn't have any trouble tickets to respond to but we wanted to show up and "wave the flag" of Tech Support so to speak. Our usual route to the Site was blocked off by police, so we took the long way around, as we finally closed in our destination you could see the scar on the side of the building. First thoughts are "You Bastards, you Goddamn dirty mother fuckers."

Opinions It is hard to explain the sense of what NYC is right now. We are in the midst of the worst and the best. I love the fact that New Yorkers are so resilient. I hate the fact that Arabs on Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn and even some right here in Queens, were cheering in the streets. Of course they say it was the Jews who did it, no Jews died in the disaster, Jews control the banks, the government, the pentagon.

People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered;

Forgive them anyway.

Memorial: American: The Good Neighbor

Opinions This, from a Canadian newspaper, is worth sharing.

Widespread but only partial news coverage was given recently to a remarkable editorial
broadcast from Toronto by Gordon Sinclair, a Canadian television commentator. What follows
is the full text of his trenchant remarks as printed in the Congressional Record:

Memorial: The Deeper Wound

Opinions As fate would have it, I was leaving New York on a jet flight that took off 45 minutes before the unthinkable happened. By the time we landed in Detroit, chaos had broken out. When I grasped the fact that American security had broken down so tragically, I couldn't respond at first. My wife and son were also in the air on separate flights, one to Los Angeles, one to San Diego. My body went absolutely rigid with fear. All I could think about was their safety, and it took several hours before I found out that their flights had been diverted and both were safe.

Opinions Well, you hit the World Trade Center, but you missed America. You hit the Pentagon, but
you missed America. You used helpless American bodies, to take out other American bodies,
but like a poor marksman, you STILL missed America. Why? Because of something you guys
will never understand.
