I think i have been able to get the InstantPalace working under Java Sun.
I don't know anything about java programming, but i have decompiled some classes and made some minor changes (meaning: leaving some code out ) in the classes causing problems, and then compiling again.
Just when i was about to quit because i thougt this was useless.. it worked!
I think i have just been lucky... in the end i had to change only 3 classes.
Well i just say.. take a look at:
RentaDabo's PalaceChat
You can also enter the chat at http://www.chatboxx.nl
I have also made a member area where you can register your chatname.
I have tested the chat with the newest java sun under windows xp and windows 2000 with Internet Explorer and Firefox. Some feedback about this working with mac or linux is greatly appreciated!

This is great
Works on Safari on the Mac. First time that a mac user can use OSX and run instant palace, instead of running it under Classic mode. Any chance that this will be shared? |

Because this solves a lot of problems for many palace server owners and it would become more and more difficult for windows users to enter instant palace, i am happy to share this
I have spoken Maarten yesterday and we agreed that it wil be made available as a download package on this site, but correct me if i am wrong Maarten.
Perhaps there has to be made a few changes in the standard html applet code, but i can't test this because my server is not in a standard situation. |

Hi
Yep like we agreed it will be shared on Palaceplanet, but I would like to make a test on a Linux server to see if this works with standart Instant Palace setups. Will let you know ASAP! |

Greetings,
My name is Ian and I'm new to the group. I read this thread and I figured I would ask about a download of this re-compiled JAVA compatible version of Instant Palace. Just curious if one was available yet, if not any expectations on availability?
Thanks,
Respectfully,
Ian |

Hey Ian
Read about your project, hope you get it hosted. Anyway, forgot to put up the Java files. Wanted to make a nice test setup first and make a fully working "idiot proof" version (no i'm not calling anyone an idiot )
But don't have the time, so the files Ton send me are on the server in the downloads section. (under: Palace Server Plugins)
Hope you get it working, you need to replace one .Jar file in the original setup and look at the HTML files on how to get it to work.
If you get something working and want to share please let me know.
have fun |

One thing you have to change if you want to use it, is ofcourse change this code in the html (ton.htm) from:
codebase='http://your_server:9990/binc'
to the name of your own server.. perhaps you can leave this codebase out in a normal situation, but i am not sure. |

rentahero,
I've got the Sun Java version, it's working, but never prompts you for a username. I was also wondering about setting up a login screen such as yours where people can actually register and have a name and password. How did you do that? Plugins?
Thanks,
Ian |

Hi Ian,
Great to hear it is working for you! The login however on my site has nothing to do with the modification i made with the applet.. i think i was confusing people about that in the first topic, sorry about that... .
The login i made with xoops, that is a content management system what is about the same where palaceplanet is made with. In Xoops i made a module in php for the login for the chat and much more features, such as html profiles for the members, a messageboard, private messages and things to make it for Operators more easy.
This module for Xoops however is not public and is not ready and going to be shared because i have put to many hours work in it, i hope you can understand this. I have been busy with it from februari this year .

Ton,
Well it's sounds pretty cool, what you have made.
I've just recently had a palace donated from ssws.us for the multiple sclerosis support group that I moderate, so I was looking to see if it was possible of creating a login page similar to what you've come up with or may be that there was a plugin for it.

Yes i've read something about that, great that you are doing this.
I know there is an existing perl script (authenticator.pl) which can also make a login for the client, i'm not sure if this is also for instantpalace. I don't allow clients on our chat.
Perhaps this plugin is useful to you:
securenames plugin
Perhaps someone on this forum can help you with it, i have no experiences with this plugins because they can only be used with linux, not windows. |

Hi Ian
Well good to hear you had some luck getting hosted and got the Instant Palace up and running. If you want just a simple way where users can pick a name and nothing secure or anytyhing its simple. The login / name option you are looking for is a switch made in the HTML of your Instant Palace start page.
Look for this piece of code:
Code: | <PARAM name=ChooseNameEnabled value=false> |
All you have to do is change false to true to turn on the "choose name" option. You can actually add a few other options to help people out:
Code: | <PARAM name=ChooseAvatarEnabled value=false>
<PARAM name=TutorialEnabled value=false> |
This should add a small tutorial and the option to choose a avatar before entering. If you want to know more about modifying your Instant Palace you should check out Andy's site:
http://eagles.chatserve.com/ipcustom.html
Not sure all these extra prameters are compatible with Ton's version but you can always give it a try
As for the secure login Rentahero mentioned: you can turn this on for Instant Palace as well. You need to make a user list and passwords in a text file to get this to work. There was a group that figured out a user setup where users registered with a valid e-mail and then had access to the server. But I don't have this info at the moment,
anyway hope this helps you out for now |
