Post subject: Can't restart palace due to authentication server error  PostPosted: Jul 29, 2004 - 05:45 PM

Ok, to stop people from using the Palace Client on my Java palace, I just turned on authentication, even though I didnt have an authentication server running, and that worked fine because it stopped everybody from using anything except IE to see my palace...

BUT!

My server crashed and now I get an error message about the authentication server when I try to restart it!

And I don't know how to turn it off without actually being in there in the first place, so if someone could tell me how to turn it off by editting a file, I'd be eternally grateful.

Well try and check the Palace.pref file to see if there is a line with authentication in it. The authentication switch is either in the propfile, the palace.prefs, palace.conf or your Pserver.reg. I never know whitch one but you can try them all with backups.

The pserver.pat can be found in your psdata folder together with the pserver.prefs, pserver.conf and pserver.prp. The Pserver.reg is in your windows folder.

Just make a copy of your working Palace, and one by one replace the working files with backups from this site. This way you can locate in what fil the authentication is set.

good luck
