Hi my names mal and I recently downloaded a palace server from palace planet... its registered and I changed all of the security measures on my palace to allow guests and users, however my friends cannot get in!
I checked for firewalls.. I dont think I have any.. Im not quite sure. I have symantec antivirus and am running windows XP I have adsl D-Link internet and it is a single home computer. Ive noticed that there are quite a few people having this problem and ive heard it could be my pat. file (but i havent touched it at all)...or that it could just be a bad server... I hope thats not the case its a brand new palace.. and the rooms and backgrounds are already made, so I really want it to work If you have any idea what I could be doing wrong or have any solutions please please post!!! or e-mail malice_in_wonderland777@hotmail.com Thanks so much.

Hi (again )
you are right, this is a common problem and i'm afraid it can be many things. But none of those has anything to do with your PAT file or virus scanner.
It all comes down to network and firewall settings, a couple of things you can check:
-Your outside world IP adress, use http://www.whatismyip.com to see what your ip adress is on the internet. the one you see in the Palace log window is only your local network ip.
-Is your computer running a firewall? Palace needs port 9998 opened to connect. You can do a quick test to see if it is your firewall by turning it off and get a friend to try and connect. Don't forget to turn it back on again
I'm not a big networke xpert because my stuff always worked lol. You can do a search on this forum for some other answers. There is a "sticky" on top of the User Questions forum with a whole explenation about DSL connections. Hope this helps a bit
good luck |
