It's not possible with scripts. Haven't you read anything that was said in the other topic? |

All that neato stuff that servers can do on Linux is done with plugins NOT scripts! People have said that countless times on this message board. If you want the best palace has to offer you gotta use a Linux server because the Windows server doesn't support plugins! |

You should get one with a powersupply and a CPU. |

Don't forget a mother board, Front & Back Side-Buses, a couple of PCI slots, plenty of data lines for RAM, the RAM itself, a couple of hard drives, a CD-ROM, and you've got yourself a power hog baby! |

If you really want to spend some serious cash: get yourself powercable as well. Later, when you figured out how to use it, you can buy a on/off switch. |

And a chassis would be nice. Oh so full of spice! Don't forget to feed the mice! I suggest you do it twice! |

Janus being to technical again??
Ok let me try to explain:
Its like a box but without the toys and with some melted sand you put in electricity, you know the stuff they have been shooting through your head in that white room.
You put a lot of ones and zeros on a little round piece of metal and make it spin really really really fast.
there thats much clearer right? |

You could build up a PC and install Linux on it and start your own Linux server. I suggest research A+ cert type material before installing Linux. Learn how IDE/SCSI devices are labeled, what a 'jumper' is, howto access your BIOS menu and save changes to the CMOS. Fun stuff! |

Dude wot you talkin 'bout? Just look for an ole amiga in a landfill!
And SCSI? psh....
Actually I had and still have fun running Linux servers, it is not that difficult if you find a distro suited for your level of knowledge. Debian and RedHat 5 / 9 Fe.1 where prety easy and run Palace nicely. SuSe / Mandrake are cute and complete for homeusers who just start.
It is fun building your own PC from the ground up and to be honest I don't know any other way. And its pretty cheap too. But it is only fun as a hobby, I had a pretty cool Linux server in a datacenter for a couple of years and well.. thats no fun.
Speeds are great but yo never know what is going on while your away and you need to plug EVERY hole when a hacker only needs one to get in.
Noe one ever got in but still it got a bit to much combining real life with a server hosting hobby.
bleah starting to rant here hehe.... |

SCSI hardwares have faster spindal speeds than IDE drives. Plus, the host controller of the SCSI cards for PCI slots have their own microprocessor - meaning, if you burn from a SCSI Hard Drive to a SCSI CD-RW under the same host controller it never has to bother the main CPU of the system!
To prevent people from breaking in, enable SuExec under Apache, and run your palace server under a limited user account. Then set iptables to only allow connections incoming to ports like 80 (Apache) and 9998 (Palace). Problem solved BIATCH! |
