this can be forced to install if you run the installer in compatibility mode for Windows NT. it will install the control panel item - but is there any way of getting it to start up? I cant seem to.... (the buttons are greyed out)

I know the 4.4 server is "better", but I wanted to play with plugins!

It's not compatible with that OS.

I know, but there should surely be a way to trick the program into thinking it is running on NT. are services on NT done differently than those on 2000 and XP?

my guess is, the only reason the buttons are greyed out is because there is no PServer service installed to start/stop. if one knew what files were used for the service, they could manually install the service, and possibly re-write an installer to do this automatically... make a more secure PServer for windows.
