Palace and the Art of Conversation

When you first start on Palace, (cast your mind back….waaaay back) it is actually difficult to get any sensible conversation out of anyone. You may not recall this, if you are a hardened Veteran, because you know a few people now. But when you first started, you entered a room, waited a day or so for the picture to load, and then hid in a corner as quickly as possible. When your heart rate had recovered from the scary experience of landing in a room full of strangers you might then try a very tentative, "hi" and be absolutely amazed when someone went "hi" back.

Palace Madness (and other psychotic states)

The wonderful world of Palace Chat opens up a whole area of human behaviour that is just not available in real life. You can be whoever you want to be, dress in whatever clothing you like and explore any fantasy character you care to create. In real life, this luxury is normally confined to the mentally insane and professional actors; both of whom have a thin grasp of reality. Though of course, acting pays more. This liberation from your body, background, gender and even species is extremely good fun and liberating. It allows you to cast off responsibility. It allows you to be beautiful, free, single, or the CEO of a Multi-National organisation. But it is so addictive that it is very easy to develop Palace Madness, of which, I confess dear reader, I was a victim....

Tears of a Clone

I make my own avatars and so when I get cloned (which I do!) I take it rather personally. This then leads to me getting annoyed, tracking the IP address, searching all the Palaces for the offender, finding them, befriending them under a false name, stalking them long enough to get their home address, then going round to their house and setting about them with a pair of pliers and a blow torch....

The other day I realised that Palace was missing something. You might think it has just about everything in the way of characters I mean there's flirts, snerts, liars, psychos, drunks and...and oh yeah...really nice normal people who like a chat. But Palace has a blind spot. I mean, where are all the service personnel? A Palace is a sort of virtual building after all. So where are the essential services? Where are the other classic characters?...
