Which Reg. Code to Use?

Hi,
i haven't been online in a long time. My past and present problem is I have forgotten my pasword for the child lock to open my palace server, The info i found in this forum helps except, after looking into stored email on my reg codes. I have found 3. I dont' remeber which code I used to register. My question is if I delete my Palace.reg file, Which reg. code should I use?

- My Palace server was created on Sept. 24, 2000
- My 3 reg codes are dated as follows:

1. 9/22/2000 @ 12:22 a.m. with 8 digit palace site ID #
2. 9/22/2000 @ 12:21 a.m. with 8 digit palace site ID #
3. 7/18/2000 @ 11:32 a.m. with 8 digit profile ID #

Also, should I update my server?
What I find stored on my pc is Palace32.

Just try them all and the one that works is the right one?

There has not been any new Windows Palace server versions since 1999 so I doubt you have an even older version. Besides, if it works it works.

Windows Palace servers are all unstable and not very secure anyway

The Windows Palace Client reserves the last 33 bytes of its .REG file for the Child Lock password. The first byte of the 33 is the number of characters in the password and the final 32 contains information about the password. The password can only be 32 characters long.

1) Open a command prompt (DOS prompt) screen or window.
Click on Start then Programs then Accessories and execute Command Prompt for most versions of Windows but older versions had it on the main Programs menu as DOS Prompt.

2) At the black screen, type CD \windows and press the <ENTER> key.
You will get a Windows prompt.
If your version of Windows is installed in another directory, use that instead.

3) Type DIR *.REG and press the <ENTER> key.
This will display all the .REG files. Look for ones that are 174 in size. The standard palace client is Palace.reg while other clients will use other names like tandtp.reg or ptlace.reg but all should be 174 in size.

4) Type DEBUG followed by a <SPACE> and the name of the correct REG file then press the <ENTER> key.
You will get a minus sign (-) as a prompt.

5) At the minus prompt, type
E 018E 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 then press the <ENTER> key
(that is 33 zeros with a space between each.)
It will come back to the minus prompt.

6): Type D 0180 and press the <ENTER> key
you should see lines similar to:
0FD4:0180 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00-00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................
0FD4:0190 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00-00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................
0FD4:01A0 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00-00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................
where the first 4 numbers of each line may vary but the others should appear like this up to the last 2 numbers of the third line which do not matter.


7a) If information does not match, restart procedure by typing Q then pressing the <ENTER> key to return the the Command Prompt and repeat starting with Step 4.
7b) If information matches, type W and the <ENTER> key.
Debug will respond with:
Writing 00AE bytes

8) Type Q then press the <ENTER> key.
This gets you back to the Windows prompt.

9) Type EXIT then press the <ENTER> key.
This closes the Command Prompt screen or window.

Child Lock should be removed so you should now be able to start Palace without the password now.

As a modification, in step 5 you could instead only write a single zero to 018E and leave the rest behind. This is the method that the client software uses when it updates the password.
