A server more than anything needs upload bandwidth (sending data). ADSL's hardware is by default garunteed to be slower at uploading than downloading (asynchronous speeds). Not to mention most ISPs will cap or 'limit' your speeds to download at strikingly fast speeds, and upload incredibly slow. So yeah, try hosting the media externally.
