How to organise A worldwide Palace event

So how should an event like this be organised, an old idea I send to a group of peope that organised such an event:

Create groups that organise themselves depending on theme, hosts, country / continent. Make quarter groups, a couple of people that make sure a block of 8 hours is up to standards / up to speed.

Write up a little storyline and let them freak out on it with little clues and user participation instead of just a 24 hour slide show. Make sure the groups organise themselves and have a few deadlines for planning and linking up.

Off course the main problem is: you are relying on the users to make it happen but then again: you always are.

this way there is no inhuman pressure on anyone and it will probably be more fun and diverse.

I also think people who take a certain role or responsebility should either stick to it or handover the keys if they decide not to play anymore. Holding a event / community resource hostage sucks because it pretty much gives nobody the chance to make something happen.

I remember in 2002 XXX didn't do anything until it was pretty much to late and everybody flipped. The only thing XXXX should have done was give someone else the ability to work on the stuff we though was needed and people would have been happy and on time.

Don't want to play anymore? Give the keys back to the community and let them play :)

Sounds like a plan, so who should run this and where do we start?

WEll the community should run it obviously. Because if you leave it in the hands of a single person they do have the bad habit of running of without a word.

Thats also why there is an open invitation to anyone to help run this website. Sadly nobody has stepped foreward, a lot of people would like to "own" the site but a few have actually tried to help run it.

Perhaps a problem that sites like palacetool and thepalace.com run into as well.

Perhaps the community should come together to decide on a more convenient time for the old traditions like the Hop. Such a tradition was always a blast when everyone in the community worked together. Perhaps a Mayday/Spring Hop when people aren't so frantic about the upcoming holidays and the stresses that come with the planning involved in their real lives.
Perhaps, then some would relish the challenge of coming up with vivid imaginative ideas for a really entertaining enjoyable Friday/Saturday event so that every community member Worldwide could participate and relive and revive the traditions of the past that seem to have been sadly forgotten or over-controlled to the point of strangulation or stagnation.

I am thinking some more here. Please everyone contribute your ideas. Perhaps if we were to set a date in May for a Spring/Mayday hop, we could start coming together in January for planning. So that there would be plenty of time ( 5 months) to plan organize, advertize, and gather the community and do everything that is necessary to allow such an endeavor to succeed.

I think thats a great idea Dauphin, and with more people it should be pretty easy to set it up.

Now all we need is to get more people joining in, when we have enought people who want to help build we can get some ideas going.

Sounds superb to me!! This was always a very stressful time of year to have it and just cause Wizzard started it then we kept on doing !! I understood it was to be in December??? It isnt happening?? I got fired last year after all those years haha cause I hadnt stayed in touch all ear and I was always the one that started in about it in July cause it always took that long to build a fire under some people about it--we had voted one year to NEVER have it in December after that one year--mostly due to animations for the Holiday and too much going on---but I got ignored when I screamed and hollered about it so left the group --obviously so di many others hahaha--also many are no longer palacing--Miss P used to keep it all together for us but she seems to have stepped back and whoever ran it tha last 2 years just didnt get ot together--otherwise how couild some new worker call me on the mat after 10 years?? I never got that part-but oh well hahaha-anyway--as Maart knows--he and I were once on the staff for it and we both had to walk away or go mad haha--so here we go volunteering again hahaha
