Palace Planet doing better then expected?

So I got home to find Palace Planet had exceeded its allocated bandwidth, it used up all the bandwidth I had set for the month of April. (8GB)

Good news in a way, not so good news for whomever tried to find info on the site at the time :)

But all is sorted, PalacePlanet now has DOUBLE the bandwidth, with any luck we will not have to expand this for at least another month

More info on Palace Planet statistics for those who are intrested can be found here:

http://www.palaceplanet.net/stats.html

The counting starts on March 6 2006 when the site moved to this new server. And do NOT include any statistics for the Manuals section.

The Palace Planet website has been online since June 24 2000.

That's one drawback of Nuke sites. Someone can reload a page constanstly and the stats consider those as page hits. Postnuke and PHP-Nuke needs a Unique Hits module like some other CMS's. Only count the ip address once per visit.

But it's not the HITS that count, it's what the visitors do at the site, right?

You said it: it is definately not the hits that count.
Thats why the manuals are in plain html, speed is more important.
But to be honest I don't think there are people just reloading this site for the hitcount.

However the stats are a nice indication and not that far of from the stats on the server. A few months ago traffic was half of what it is now, spring must be in the air :)

Now with any luck we will get more volunteers that are ready to help out with the site :P

bandwidth doesn't lie...well if it does, that might be a legal matter, haha

Reloading pages and images is what takes up bandwidth. That's how those hackers also take down sites. Not only do they try and find loop holes in the scripts that you use, but they can use a program themselves. So you cannot count out the constant visits of ONE USER to not only have your stats skyrise but to also exceed the bandwidth.

I'm not saying that's the case of Palace Planet. In fact, I've downloaded a lot from here myself and find it very useful and I'm sure others are the same way.

Just don't count it out as a possibility.

And good job on adding more bandwidth. The more the merrier I say.

Sure I can, like I said its a nice indication, for real statistics i check my server stats. they say pretty much the same thing. The Toplist is also a very exact indicator, it has a brilliant anti-cheat. According to my webstats however it only counts half :P

To be honest I never even checked stats etc. until very recently because it says nothing about the quality of the site or the info on it.

It is nice to know that my work is appreciated afterall I have been on this site pretty much every day for 5 years.

Glad you could find some usefull stuff, I checked the downloads and I'm shocked. So many people still downloading and registering. When we did the Reginal code Wake and Solidarity events in 2000 we where sure Palace would be dead in 2003. (http://wake.palaceplanet.net

And for what its possible or not: I'm afraid I found out whats possible on/with/under/over/through this site in more ways then you can imagine :P
I guess people like to break things when they look official and forget this is just one guy obessing, looking for help :) (Bo00o0ohoo0o0)

Woohoo! Now all we need is more crazy people willing to help others :P

Anyone intrested in re-writing parts of the manuals? Some of the text is so old and stuffy we need to pimp it up or something.

Don't have the time or patience with the manuals, but with what you have already, maybe more visuals to go with the text. People love pictures.

I asked on the postnuke forums. They said, stats modules cannot be considered "accurate". Web servers are the most accurate, but there's no module for that yet.

I tested your TopList. I found a way to increase the "in" and "out" number by cheating, lol.

Most resource sites should take that quote into consideration! Very well said!

I'm still backtrack reading the forums. I think that needs cleaning, too. I think if you get rid of all the negativity between the users (given and received), it would be more enjoyable. A lot threads I see flaming going on and posts deleted to make some look like they're talking about who knows what. Just my opinion. Otherwise, the forums are already very useful.
